New Testament Survey - Module 2: The Gospels and Acts

Hi everyone, and welcome to the second module of the New Testament Survey Course. In this module, we'll be working through the four New Testament Gospels and the Book of Acts

This module is the introduction to the life and work of Jesus, and His significance for all of world history. These books cover His birth, life, teaching, eventual death, and then His resurrection. But throughout, they describe the theological significance of all that He did. And then the book of Acts continues the story of what Jesus began by telling the story of how His first followers spread the good news about Jesus throughout the Roman empire of the time, highlighting the theological and missionary significance of all that they did.

Through this module, you will learn the background, organization, content, and themes of all of these New Testament books. But you will also be invited to explore the significance and application of all of these insights to your own personal life and ministry.

Module Objectives and Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this module, the student will:

  • Place the people, places, and events related to Jesus, as covered in the Gospels, into a general chronology
  • Explain the main message(s), organization, theme(s), and/or character(s) of the four Gospels and Acts.
  • Explain and apply the message of the Kingdom of God, its character, timing, fulfillment, blessings and demands to the student's contemporary situation.
  • Have a growing understanding, love, and appreciation for the person of Jesus, as displayed in the four Gospels.
  • Have a growing understanding or the nature and mission of the Christian church, as described in the Book of Acts, and a desire to participate in that mission.
